Recommended Vaccination Schedules
DogsFirst Vaccination: 6-8 weeks of age Second Vaccination: 9-11 weeks of age (Rabies included) Third Vaccination: 12-14 weeks of age (Rabies included) |
CatsFirst Vaccination: 9 weeks of age Second Vaccination: 12 weeks of age (Rabies included) |
An ANNUAL VACCINE thereafter is recommended.
Recently there has been some discussion as to whether annual vaccinations are necessary. Although some components of the annual vaccine will last for 3 years in a normal challenge environment, other parts will not. Every pet responds differently to a vaccine and it is our recommendation therefore, that an adult receive annual vaccines up until they reach 75% of their expected lifespan. When they are elderly the 6 in 1 vaccine can be dropped.
IT IS A LEGAL REQUIREMENT IN KWAZULU-NATAL THAT RABIES VACCINE BE GIVEN ANNUALLY.
Other Vaccines:
Kennel Cough
Kennel cough is a highly contagious disease of the respiratory tract in dogs. It results in a nasty honking cough. Many boarding kennels require this vaccination. It needs to be given at least 7 days before boarding and should be boosted annually.
